More grandparent madness

Nope, I don't think any of the grandparents enjoy the experience at all. Just look at the look on her face. You can just tell she's thinking "Get me out of here!" Yup. I bet she's just desperate for someone to take that kid away from her so she doesn't have to hold him any more.

I think maybe they're enjoying being grandparents...

I may be wrong, but I get the impression that my parents are enjoying being grandparents. Maybe.

I could be wrong though.

He's really not fat...

See? He's really not fat. He's got a kind of chubby face (it keeps getting fatter and thinner and fatter and thinner) but the rest of his body is still remarkably skinny. He's gaining weight like crazy but it all seems to be going into getting longer.

At this rate, by the time he's eight the NBA will be trying to sign him to a 3-year deal.

Fish!

I have my own picture of the fish quilt that I am rather partial to. Despite the fact that Tommy looks somewhat sad, I assure you that he really likes the quilt.

Enormous bears and colourful fish

Martin & Travis apparently decided that what every tiny baby really needs in life is a teddy bear eighteen times larger than themselves. Thomas seems intrigued. Andrea and I are a little uncertain where it's going to live and whether it needs to be fed.

Andrea's aunt Elaine made this lovely quilt for Thomas. He seems reasonably content to enjoy the experience, at least until some jerk started flashing bright lights at him. But the quilt seems to amuse him.

No wonder he cries...

Here's Thomas crying pitifully. He's really upset (which begs the question, why am I taking pictures of him rather than, say, solving the problem?). But it's not too surprising. Look at the faces his mom is making at him!

I think sleep deprivation is taking its toll...

zombie dad

First - here's a picture of our pudgy little guy. I'll have to put up a body shot one of these days. His face is really fat, but the rest of him is rather skinny (seriously! He's related to me and he has skinny long arms and legs - who woulda thunk?)

This is a great shot of zombie dad before he got some sleep last night! Hopefully we won't have the opportunity to get too many more shots of zombie dad. Zombie mom however... that could happen.

back to the beginning

Well, we're back to the beginning in many respects... and it is a good thing!

Tommy slept for about the same amount of time last night as he was sleeping in the first week. That is a significant improvement from the last few nights. Yay for sleep!

And at not quite three weeks and just in time for Christmas binging, I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight and still losing! Getting no sleep and often forgetting to eat seem to be doing wonders for my figure. Okay, it isn't that bad. We generally remember to get two solid meals a day and sometimes a snack sometime in the middle, but we are not eating out (wonder why?) and we don't have time for snacking on junk food so our diets are considerably better now than they were before.

It is a good thing that Tommy isn't allowed junk food. He is practically gaining weight at the rate I'm losing it - he doesn't need any help getting fat! Actually, he isn't getting fat even with his rapid weight gain. His face is fat, but his body is still quite lean and he just keeps getting taller. Maybe tonight we'll try to stretch him out and measure him again... At this rate he's going to be taller than me before I go back to work next year.

Sleep update

We took the munchkin to the doctor today. We're still convinced that he was experiencing some nasty acid reflux, but by changing the way we hold him while we feed him, burping him less forcefully, etc, we seem to have that mostly under control. In the meantime, the poor kid spent a few days with nasty reflux where every time we laid him on his back he'd start feeling pain, so even now that his reflux isn't actually bugging him (you can tell by the expression on his face that he's actually not in pain any more, he's just annoyed) he still equates laying on his back with being in pain and so he starts yelling.

So, yeah. The doctor looked him over in great detail and is convinced that the munchkin is perfectly fine. He can't find anything wrong with him, hard as he tries. So his advice is to start letting the munchkin scream for a while, hopefully he'll figure out that he's actually not hurting when he's on his back and will get over it, and Andrea and I will actually be able to sleep again some day.

Sleep = happy... zzzz...

Oh, and he got weighed again. Any guesses at his weight? Come on, guess. Go ahead. I'll wait.

You ready?

OK. Remember, he was born at 7lbs, was down to 6lbs 15oz when we took him home, was back up to 7lbs 10oz last Monday. Want a minute to adjust your guess? That's OK, no problem, take your time.

He's up to 8lbs 14oz.

No wonder he's feeling so ridiculously heavy.

Such a lazy baby

Well, I guess it's time for a few more photos! We have a bunch of pictures of Thomas making grumpy faces, but unfortunately they all came out blurry. So instead, I'm going to post some shots of Thomas just laying around!

Finally a shot showing Thomas's eyes! Well, one of them. He does have two, and they do both work. Really, they do. It's just hard to get pictures of him with his eyes open, because when he sees the camera he starts flailing around.

Thomas sleeping on dad... I may not be comfortable, but he sure seems to be!

Sexy, sexy hair

Here's Tommy's sexy, sexy hair. You can see that even as a newborn, he's very fashion conscious. He wouldn't let me take the picture until we got his 'do just right.

The whole family!

My mom stopped by today with her friend Carol and took a few shots of the whole family. This one's my favourite of the bunch, even with little Thomas looking like he's getting annoyed with all the photography.

First week

Well, we made it through Tommy's first week with no major complications, which is nice considering the trouble he caused coming into the world.

His head is making a full recovery. Below is a photo of him after about an hour.

Then there's one from yesterday at just shy of exactly 1 week old.

More to come...

Welcome!

We're slowly getting this set up... Andrea will probably post a bunch of stuff later.

Wow. Lame first post. Sorry, we'll have more fun later, I promise.
