Tommy Eats Christmas

Tommy discovered today that Christmas is all about celebrating the joy of the season and spending time laughing with your family. If you can achieve copious amounts of drool while you're at it, so much the better. The important thing is to keep smiling.

It's hard to tell, but in this picture, Thomas is playing with a new toy truck. He's become so excited about the holidays that he's not only lost the ability to walk, he's even been rendered incapable of sitting. I can't say I blame him. Toy trucks are pretty exciting. If someone gave me a toy truck, I might just fall over too.

Finally, we see Tommy engaging in the traditional Christmas activity of all young children everywhere -- ignoring the gifts in favour of playing with whatever the gifts came in. In this case, he's investigating the nutritional properties of wrapping paper. It turns out that Frosty, while tasty, is not nearly as filling as you might think. Still, Tommy continues to carefully investigate other forms of wrapping paper, just to be sure.

Zzzzzzz

As you can see here, Thomas is even cute when laying perfectly still doing nothing but breathing. Play the video for the cutest little snoring you'll ever hear...

(Unfortunately, he's snoring that loudly because he's sick. Poor little monster.)

New toys

Tommy received many lovely gifts for his birthday. Most of them have many, many pieces and he took everything apart all at once.

Then, rather than watching a movie with us, he decided to look at the TV from the wrong side.

Why is everyone staring at me?

Thomas got started in his birthday cake a little early. While I was decorating his cake, he tried a bit of the icing to make sure that it was good enough for his guests.

The finished product. It tasted better than it looked.

Daddy helped blow out the candle.

Thomas was wondering what was in the cake. No one else was eating. Everyone was staring at him. Waiting for something. But what?

Laurie decided to show him how it is done, this cake eating business.

Who's afraid of the big bad cow?

Thomas is trying out his Stare Of Doom(TM) as part of his costume as an evil, soul-devouring cow for Hallowe'en.

Oh wait, it turns out he's not an evil cow so much as a silly cow. Huh. Well, that's good too. On a side note, it's worth pointing out that getting this picture involved considerable restraint on Andrea's part, as she was desperately fighting the urge to nibble Thomas's toes. Don't they look just nummy?

In the end, we had to take the costume off. Thomas was not thrilled about being a cow. Which might actually explain the look he was giving in the first picture. Still it was cute while it lasted.

Trying to keep Thomas still for a photo is hard work!

After Grandpa and Grandma Mary left, we threw our child into the playpen with nothing more than a rail to eat.

Tommy's new playmate Graham came for a visit and showed us that in future michevious endeavours between the two, Graham is likely to be the evil genius of the duo.

Posing for photos with the relations

Thomas and Grandpa just after he arrived. Thomas is pretty comfy with Grampy regardless of the length of time since their last meeting.

Uncle Joel came over for a visit too...

Tommy visited with Grandma Mary.

And she read him a new book.

Grampy and Tommy stopped playing for a few minutes to pose for a picture

More random pics

Tommy posed for mommy in his new dino outfit. Note the dinosaur spikes on the hood. Mommy couldn't resist.

Tommy modelling the new hat that mommy made for him after verifying that he has an enormous head. An average woman needs a hat 18 inches around. So does Thomas at only 11 months of age. He's going to require custom hats for life.

And this is what Thomas looks like just after his hat comes off. He has the most impressive hair!

Random Pics

Saturday morning cartoons are terribly funny.

But all that giggling is exhausting. He doesn't actually have a black eye, he is just smushed up against daddy's arm.

Better Photos

While Chris seems to want to show everyone how weird Tommy can be (an he can be a pretty weird child - but he comes by it honestly...), I decided to put up a couple of more normal pictures, somewhat out of order.

He was just being so cute one day last week that I had to take a picture.

And this is after a long hard day at daycare (his first one). Obviously it didn't upset him at all.

Our son is remarkably mature

Thomas is growing up at an alarming rate. He's practically an adult already, as you can see from his mature, dignified portrait below.

Further mayhem

Tommy's decided that we don't take good-enough pictures and needed to take matters into his own hands. You can see here his first foray into the world of self-portraiture.

Next, Thomas decided to demonstrate his remarkable grasp of pop culture (for a 10-month-old, anyway) by doing his best Blair Witch pose. Surprisingly no snot or tears. We aren't complaining, mind you.

I know, I know, this looks like Andrea's decided to celebrate our new dining room table by nibbling on Thomas's soft belly. Don't worry, it was nothing of the sort -- she was actually just checking to see if he'd make a good placemat.

(He doesn't make a good placemat, it turns out... Too lumpy.)

They grow up so fast...

It seems like just last year that Thomas was born, but already he has his first car...

He's also learned how to kick back and relax in his chair. He's really remarkably cat-like in his ability to take up all available space...

Thomas has actually figured out how to go up at least one stair. I was trying to get a shot to prove it but the second he saw the camera he climbed back down and struck a pose.

More poser

I have different ideas than Chris about which poser pictures should be posted.

Tommy is just so much more manly in this picture...

Okay, he's not so much a poser here, but they were soooo sleepy.

And apparently the suprise sweater is very shocking indeed!

What a poser

Thomas is shown here modelling his fabulous new sweater, known as a Baby Surprise sweater. The surprise? That it's a sweater! (You have to see it in pre-sweater form to be able to appreciate how bizarre it is.) Thomas may have only warmed up to the camera slowly but you can see now that he's grown to love posing for pictures.

Unfortunately, while Thomas has learned how to pose -- and personally, I think this is an excellent manly pose Thomas is demostrating -- he hasn't yet learned not to make silly faces. I think he's trying to lick his own tongue in this shot.

This one's not so much of a "modelling portfolio" shot as it is a "look, my son thinks he's a beaver!" shot. A more attentive father might have, say, tried to stop him from eating the furniture, but my natural reaction was to reach for the camera. Probably bad for Thomas, but funny for the rest of us, so overall I'm counting it as a win.

He's a blur...

First things first... almost none of our pictures from our trip to Nova Scotia turned out. There are no more to post.

Since our return, it has been increasingly difficult to take pictures of Tommy. He's moving so fast he's a blur.

However, in the two weeks since our return, he got a second tooth, he learned to get from a laying to a sitting position, he took off crawling (forwards as well as backwards now), and is now pulling himself up on things.

Life is only going to get more interesting from here.
